Oconics has vast experience in providing Open XML solutions to both the community and clients. We regularly present on OpenXML at Microsoft TechEd and helped lobby for the adoption of this format for the international community.
In traditional server side document assembly, client side software had to be loaded on the server which is not an ideal situation. With the advent of the Office Open XML Format, which are based on XML and ZIP archive technology, a new level of document assembly is possible.
Our solutions utilising both Open XML and Office Development include the Federal Parliament of Australia and South Australian Parliament. Our solution ensures that the multiple people working on transcription of Chambers and Committees can be sucessfully publish documents consistently and on-time every time.
We also work within the legal industry where documents and metadata are closley aligned and where the quick and accurate production of documents is critical to the success of their own companies.
Why Open XML?
- Integration with Business Data : Due to its use of XML, Open XML enables organisations to share and exchange information between Office documents and any other software applications business systems. In addition, Office documents can also consume information from other business applications. Web services that expose data in enterprise information systems can create, populate, and update Office documents auomatically without client interaction. It also allows for creation of interfaces within Office applications that allow users to view and retieve data from line-of-business applications and operational data sources from within the Office environment.
- Improved Automation and Programmability: The Open XML formats provide significantly enhanced opportunities for the automation of Office documents and document-based processes. As documents stored in the OpenXML format are machine-readable and editable by any text editor or XML processor, solutions need not use Microsoft Office programs to view or edit content within the documents.
- Openness and Transparency: As this format is an Ecma Office Open XML international standard, organisations can more effectivley enforce policies, best practices related to security, privacy, and document management. The format als reduces the dependency on the Office programs themselves with the formats enabling an archival strategy that can be mandated sometimes by strict regatory and compliance guidelines.
